A pillow protector fails in one of two places: at the zip, or in the laundry. Everything else a buyer asks about - the barrier, the fabric, the print - only matters if the protector survives being changed and washed at the frequency a hotel or a rental actually runs.

The barrier and the feel are the same decision

A waterproof protector has to do two jobs that pull against each other: stop liquid and dust reaching the pillow, and still feel like something a guest will sleep on. Tighten the barrier and the protector starts to feel like a plastic sheet; loosen it for feel and the barrier stops being credible.

The balance is set by three things in production - the fabric, the barrier construction bonded to it, and how the layers are joined. Our protectors are built on 100% polyester fabric, which is the practical choice for hotel laundry because it holds its shape and dries quickly, and polyester is available as a custom specification when a buyer needs a different hand feel. Because the barrier construction, the bonding method and the resulting performance all vary with the order, the numbers behind them are confirmed against the batch test report on request / with sample rather than printed as a single figure that only holds for one build.

Zips, seams and what fails first in a laundry

The zip is the most common point of failure on any protector, and it is the part buyers inspect least at sampling. A zip that is fine on a single pillow starts skipping the teeth once it has been through a commercial wash cycle enough times, and when it fails the protector is scrap while the pillow inside is untouched.

So we sew the closure for the frequency it will see, and we specify the zip together with the panel rather than after it. Seams are bound where the protector carries liquid, and panel joins are positioned so that wash stress does not concentrate at a corner. Dust mite and anti-bacteria finishes are available on part of the range and are specified per market - for those, and for wash-cycle performance, the documentation is confirmed against the batch test report on request / with sample.

Sizes, shapes and printing to your market

Protectors are cut to your pillow dimensions rather than sold from a fixed size list. Standard shapes are rectangular and custom shapes are accepted, so a protector can be cut to the pillow you already buy - including the pillows we make ourselves, which is the simplest way to keep the fit consistent. Custom sizes are available upon request / with sample.

Two further decisions sit here. The first is colour, which is set from your requirements rather than a stock card. The second is print: our current range runs plain, dot, striped and geometric patterns, and the protector can carry your own printed design and label as an OEM item. For buyers building a range, the pattern is usually what separates two otherwise identical protectors on a shelf, so it is worth deciding at sampling rather than after the first shipment.

OEM terms, packing and the first order

Custom work is where most of the value sits on this product, so the terms are worth stating plainly. Minimum order quantity is 100 pcs for a standard protector, and 500 pcs where the order carries custom logo, graphic or packaging work. Packing is specified to your requirement - the protector can ship in your own retail packaging rather than a generic bag, and the packing is decided with the print rather than afterwards.

Samples can be provided, and on a protector we would use the sample for exactly the three things that cannot be checked from a photograph: how the barrier feels under a hand, how the zip runs, and how the print sits on the panel.
